About Us
Basingstoke Silver Band is a thriving, non-competing band that aims to promote brass band music in the local area and especially to encourage young and new players to get involved. We have a training band that gives children and adults the opportunity to take up a brass instrument and gain valuable experience and competence before hopefully graduating to the main band. It also caters for those who have been playing a brass instrument and who want to improve their skills and practice playing in an ensemble. Complete beginners can also be taught though you will need to learn to be able to read music to a basic level before you start. More detailed information is available here: Learn Brass
Rehearsal for the training and main bands take place at the Elizabeth Hall in Hook on Friday evenings:
Training Band 18.45 - 19.45
Main Band 19.50 - 22.00
The address of Elizabeth Hall is Raven Road, Hook, RG27 9HH – you are most welcome to come along and listen to the band rehearsing – please ring Roger Banister to let us know you are coming 01256 472095.
We are a registered charity and we have raised money to help support several organisations including St Michael’s Hospice, Naomi House Childrens Hospice and Widowed and Young.
There is a strong social aspect to the BSB with regular barbeques and other events for band members.
Under the experienced musical direction of Steve Perrett the band performs a very varied and interesting repertoir featuring arrangements from our extensive library of classical pieces, shows, marches, hymns and pop music. The band is continually adding new music to the library.
The band performs at many different venues and events ranging from castle grounds, park bandstands, weddings, formal and informal concerts and of course carol concerts.
